Story & Mission

Our Story

Caribbean Coalition for Maternal and

Reproductive Health (CCMRH)

Caribbean Coalition for Maternal and Reproductive Health (CCMRH) is a registered 501(c)(3) (EIN: 92-2726240), and was founded in 2020 by Khalida Saalim and Aliya Allen-Valley. We met in grad school studying public health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and started CCMRH after realizing how difficult it was to access data related to maternal and reproductive health in the Caribbean region. We wanted to create a network of organizations dedicated to improving maternal and reproductive health in the Caribbean and a space for them to come together to collaborate, identify existing gaps in resources and research, and address these needs.

Today, CCMRH is a regional network of over 20 member organizations across more than 10 countries and territories, and we are still growing! Our team is comprised of mothers, women, leaders, and allies from across the region.

Our Mission

A space for all things maternal and

reproductive health in the Caribbean

Our Mission is three-pronged:

  • To create safe spaces for regional connection where organizations and individuals can come together to share resources, collaborate, and connect to improve Caribbean maternal and reproductive health

  • To provide resources and support to Caribbean mothers, women, and allies

  • To produce innovative research around maternal and reproductive health to address existing disparities in Caribbean maternal and reproductive health

Ultimately, we envision a Caribbean in which every person has the resources they need to support their maternal and reproductive well-being.
